Wander through Melbourne's beautiful garden precinct on this self-guided walking tour. Collect clues and solve puzzles to reveal a surprise destination - an iconic establishment of Melbourne's food scene.

**PLEASE NOTE - there is currently construction blocking part of the Grand Gardens route. Short detours may be necessary. All solutions are printed at the back of the booklet if a clue is not accessible.

Starting at the Shrine of Remembrance, you'll wander through the Royal Botanic Gardens, King's Domain and Queen Victoria Gardens. Along the way you'll discover moving monuments and stunning natural beauty. A perfect way to unplug and spend quality time with your friends and family.


  • Starting point: Shrine of Remembrance
  • Walking distance: 3-4 kilometers
  • Estimated duration: 2 hours
  • Accessibility: The route includes some steps. Wheelchairs and prams may have to take an alternate route.
  • Puzzle Difficulty: Easy. Suitable for children 8+.

    Wondering what to do with your family this weekend? This is an ideal activity to get your kids out into nature. They will learn to read maps and follow directions. They will use their brains and eyes to find clues. Help them to build resilience when they can't find a clue the first time.

      You can enjoy the Grand Gardens Quest as an amazing race experience. Just form teams and challenge each other to see who can reach the surprise destination first! This is an ideal team building activity for tourist or corporate groups.

      If you'd rather take your time, feel free to meander slowly through the clues, soaking up the natural beauty. Stop for a picnic, to sketch the landscape, or nap on the lawns. There are no rules, so do what you like.

      The Grand Gardens Quest is also a great activity to do with kids. Enjoy quality family time while your children learn skills like following instructions and navigation. The puzzles will develop their problem solving abilities. Finding clues helps with resilience and observational ability. It's a perfect weekend activity.

      Surprise Destinations:

      • Urban Beer Garden - This iconic venue offers instagram-worthy food which pairs perfectly with drinks and good times. A visit here will find you amongst the hustle and bustle the locals have come to love about this original waterfront icon.  
      • Sweet Treats - This hidden gem is cheerful and cosy, with brightly coloured treats and delicious coffee. A sure-fire favourite with the kids. 
      • Waterfront CantinaA relaxed bar and eatery overlooking the Yarra River with a breathtaking view of the Melbourne skyline. Perfect for a long slow lunch, or to watch the sun set on the city.
